Storage Protection Cover
Last updated: 8 July 2026
Insurance is required
Your goods are stored at your own risk (see clause 25 of our Terms and Conditions) and it is a condition of your contract that they remain insured throughout your stay. You can't rent a unit at TheWorkstore without valid cover in place.
You have two ways to meet this requirement. Whichever you pick, we'll ask you to confirm it at checkout.
What our cover includes
Our Protection covers the standard risks associated with self storage — fire, flood, storm, lightning, theft following forced entry, and malicious damage. Full policy details are handed to you when you sign up and add cover to your booking.
What's not covered
Cover excludes items over the value you've declared, damage from poor or unsuitable packing, damp or mould from your own goods, gradual wear and tear, and anything stored in breach of our terms. High-value items (jewellery, cash, deeds, works of art — see clause 16(i) of our Terms & Conditions) must be declared and agreed with us in writing before storage.
Cover levels and monthly pricing
Pick a cover level that matches the total replacement value of everything you're keeping in your unit. The premium is added to your monthly bill.
You must declare cover at or above the total replacement value of everything in your unit. Under-declaring may reduce or invalidate a claim.
Using your own insurance
Prefer to use your own contents insurance? That's fine — most standard home policies include some cover for goods in self storage. Before your first move-in day, we'll ask you to send us a copy of your current insurance schedule showing the sum insured and confirmation that self-storage locations are covered.
You're responsible for keeping that cover in place for the whole time your goods are with us, and for telling us if it lapses or changes materially.
How to make a claim
If something happens to your goods while they're at TheWorkstore, report it to us as soon as possible — in person at reception, by phone on 01384 904050, or by email at info@theworkstore.co.uk. We'll walk you through what's needed — usually photos, receipts and a valuation — and either help you handle the claim or point you at the right contact if you're on your own cover.
